When hanging a painting or other framed artwork:

  • use materials that will not rust such as nickel plated or brass screws, or D-rings
    Good quality hanging hardware

  • ensure that the wall into which the hanging system is secured is stable and structurally sound.

For a light to medium framed picture:

  • the work should be hung from two separate points on the wall with the hanging devices attached to two points on the back of the frame

  • the hanging devices should be strong enough to take the weight of the work without becoming stressed or warped.

For hanging a large heavy work or framed mirrors:

  • use a shelf (such as a mantle piece) to evenly distribute the weight along the bottom of the work and use the hanging devices to secure the work against the wall.
